SUPERMAR
SUPERMAR is a portrait of the place where I do my food shopping. I started SUPERMAR by randomly taking pictures with my cell phone as I shopped. There were many things at the store that caught my eye day to day so as time went by I took more photographs in the attempt to create a story with items that were in the store that day.
This was a very fun and challenging project until I realized this is the place where I get my food. I looked at my pictures and looked at all the signs, the colorful packages and other distractions in the pictures and wondered where was the food? The food was under layers of elaborate packaging designed to catch our eye. Everything is sanitized with a lie created by advertising agencies.
There has to be a better way to package our food. Yes encouraging us to use canvas bags instead of paper and plastic bags is good but I think it is disguising the elephant in the room.
